The cost of living in Greece is not like the old days. Greece is no longer a cheap country. Prices have skyrocketed since the introduction of the Euro in 2002. The government claims that inflation is less than 4%, but the locals know it is much higher than that. Hotel and restaurant prices have jumped dramatically in the last few years so the rock bottom budget for most visitors is around 50 Euros a day.
Those visitors would have to stay in hostels, take ferries, and not eat out every day. To travel comfortably in Greece tourist need at least 130 Euros a day, especially if they are visiting during the popular tourist season.

Your budget will go further if you travel during the off season. Hotels and food are a cheaper in the off season.
