Pickpockets and purse snatchers do operate in the city, especially in the Western and Eastern Railway stations on the Pest side. It’s best to avoid exchanging money on the street and stay away from the 8th district after dark. Always use one of the major taxi companies. The independent drivers can take you for more than just a ride.
