Con artists and scams are commonplace in Vietnam and so are beggars especially beggar children who look malnourished. There are all sorts of scams so the best advice is to be alert, be skeptical, and be prepared to argue when necessary. There are motorbike scams, massage boy scams, and the old hotel scam where the taxi drivers says your hotel is full and takes you to another hotel that may even have the same name. Not all Vietnamese are out for a fast buck, but there are many who prey on unsuspecting tourists.
