Travel Tips For Visiting Paris For The First Time
If you're off to Paris, congratulations! You are going to see one of the world's most beautiful and romantic cities.
As lovely as Paris is, it can be a bit overwhelming because it seems that there is so much to see. Here are the top five things you definitely should make time to visit:
Don't miss the Pont Neuf, a bridge across the River Seine in the First Arrondissement. Built between 1578 and 1607 to allow access to the Ile de la Cite, where Notre Dame Cathedral sits, it is one of the most charming and lovely sights in the whole city. You can cross the Pont Neuf to visit Notre Dame, which is also a must-see.
Sacre Coeur sits a little off by itself in the Montmarte District. The neighborhood might be a bit rougher than what you're used to (there are lots of sex shops around, so be aware of that it you're traveling with children), but it's also where they filmed parts of the film "Amelie." You can pay a visit to the Cafe des Doux Moulins, where Amelie worked.
If the Louvre is too crowded, consider going to the Musee d'Orsay. It's in an old train station, so it's architecturally unique and interesting. Its collection is one of the world's best, featuring Millet, Renoir, Van Gogh and Manet.
The line to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower is going to be long no matter when you're in Paris, so consider hanging out on the Champs du Mars, the long park in front of the Eiffel Tower, instead. This is the best place to take photos of the Eiffel Tower and it's big enough that it isn't likely to be crowded. (Also, it's free!)
Lastly, take a stroll from the Arc de Triomphe down the Champs-Elysees. Even if you cannot afford anything at the luxury boutiques, like Louis Vuitton and Chanel, that line this famous street, it's still very Parisian to take in the sights.
