The coastline of Chile is 2,580 miles long. It has rocky and wild cliffs, coves, and protected bays, inlets and islands. The water off the coast can be cold, so wet suits are a must for windsurfing and surfing. The best beaches are south of Santiago. A Mediterranean climate offers visitors hot days and cool nights and some areas have a tropical feel. The beaches are crowded in the summer.

Beach accommodations range from five star hotels to campgrounds and the restaurants serve excellent seafood dishes and the night life is booming. Windsurfing is one of the main attractions, especially on Vina del Mar, which is Chile’s most famous beach. Some of the other top beaches are: Concon which is the place to be seen; Renaca has beautiful white sand; Quintero is a famous yachtsman’s hangout; Valparaiso is a major seaport; Horcon, is a small fishing village; Zapallar is the most beautiful white sand beach in Chile and Papudo is known for fishing.
